Xbox 360 bests Wii, PlayStation 3 in US holiday sales

Posted by sunny on Jan 14th, 2007

57.jpg360 bested Wii and PlayStation 3 in US holiday season sales as Microsoft scored what analysts expected to be a lasting victory in the new-generation video game console war.
Sony’s prior generation, PlayStation 2, outsold all the freshly launched consoles in a twist that industry insiders saw as a sign that new players were being enticed into the video game world.
Sony sold 1.4 million PlayStation 2 consoles in the United States in December, compared with only 491,000 of the PlayStation 3 (PS3) model, according to figures from market research firm NPD Group.
Meanwhile, buyers snapped up 1.1 million Xbox 360s and 604,000 of the family-oriented Wii consoles made by Nintendo.

62.jpgSony, the U.S. market leader in the hard disk drive format, is responding to this demand  with five new HDD models for its 2007 Handycam® camcorder lineup. .
“The long recording times of our hard disk drive camcorders are designed to capture life’s unscripted times, beyond school plays and music recitals,” said Linda Vuolo, director of marketing for camcorder products at Sony Electronics. “Because you never know where life will take you, using an camcorder that records to a hard drive means you have hours of recording capacity to capture those moments.”

Invention: Skateboard meets Segway

Posted by sunny on Jan 3rd, 2007

6.jpgPatents reveal that Sony hopes to compete with the Segway Human Transporter. Whether Sony’s new motor-powered, balance-steered skateboard will be easier to ride remains to be seen.
The new board has two large wheels, one at either side of a flat platform. Each wheel is powered by a separate electric motor. The platform has four pressure sensors, one at each corner. When the rider stands upright in the middle of the board, all four sensors return the same reading and both motors are idle. When the rider leans forward slightly the front sensors start both motors running forward at the same speed; leaning to one side makes one wheel run faster to steer round a corner; leaning back runs the contraption backwards.
Learners or sissies can use a modified board with three or four wheels for more stability. Braver folk can use two separate boards – one for each foot, like powered roller skates.

Why Sony’s DSC-S650 and S700 were at FCC?

Posted by amber on Dec 26th, 2006

sonyy.jpgDo not get confused regarding the Sony Cyber-shot S700 with the Sony Network Walkman S700, Sharp S700 carabine player, Sony Ericsson S700i, Canon SD700 and Samsung’s S700 digital camera. Sony’s S700 is the latest digital 7 megapixel camera which features a 2.4 –inch screen with 480 X 240 resolution display and runs on AA batteries whereas the DSC-S650 features a 2.0 –inch display.

We are a bit confused for not knowing why it was in the FCC even though it does not have Bluetooth or WiFi. It will be available soon at the shop near your home.

Sony BDP-S1 with Great Image Quality

Posted by admin on Dec 7th, 2006

sony3.jpgSony’s BDP-S1 standalone player is finally released with great image quality. The colors are totally free of noise and the images looked razor sharp and artifact free. The absence of edge enhancement was particularly lauded as it was earlier seen while watching a movie. It appears as a faint outline around people and objects. The fine detail was really superb.

AS there are advantages, you will get some disadvantages too. The BDP-S1 can play all Blu-ray discs, DVD-RW/Rs and regular DVDs but if you try to play anything other than that you fill face a mechanical problem and the disc will come out. Press the remote and wait for 2-3 seconds to get response from the player.

It is better than PlayStation 3 in image quality and also comes cheaper. You will laugh if I say you that Sony does not provide an HDMI cable with this player.

sony1.jpgSony’s BDP-S1 Blu-ray is finally available for purchase after being delayed several times. You can pick it now or later this week.

The Blu-ray is fitted with 1080p and HDMI outputs. It also has the ability play back almost all the Blu-ray format discs out there in the stores. If you are thinking of saving $400 then I would like to say you that, a PlayStation 3 also has the ability to play back Blu-ray movies in 1080p and it also has HDMI output. It’s your choice now.

Sony’s PCS-HG90 a video conferencing killer

Posted by sunny on Nov 3rd, 2006

333.jpgSony presented their latest video conferencing killer product, the PCS-HG90, a system with a 1.12Mpix 3CCD HD camera (PCA-CHG90). Sony is the only company to offer an affordable, flexible, and easy to configure product. You just need a decent Internet connection and 2 sets of PCS-HG90 and PCA-CHG90 to use the system.

On the video side, this system is extremely good, and the conference Sony was proposing on a 200” screen (with a SXRD 4K video projector, a top of the line professional product) had an excellent quality for a video in 720/60p at 8Mbps, the maximum this solution can offer.

To reach such quality at 8Mbps, Sony is finally using the H.264 video codec, which renders video quite nicely if used properly.
