Knight Rider K.I.T.T. clone hits eBay sans Turbo Boost

Posted by sunny on Jan 31st, 2007

69.jpgThis is a picture-perfect reproduction of the Knight Industries 2000. Unfortunately, after all that money and man-hours, the gooey center is still an ’80s F-Body. Canadian seller zapper80 has done an awesome job putting this car together, and claims a cost of over $40,000 CDN. Zapper80 cites original molds as the source for some of the body parts, which leads us to believe that the car was put together from the wealth of parts and information available from the enthusiastic Knight Rider fans on the web.
The amount of information, and lines of communication back to KITT designer Michael Scheffe are truly astounding. No matter where everything came from, it’s a hoot to see it all lit up, and even better, it all works. Well, maybe not the “Turbo Boost” function that’d send 3000 pounds of Trans-Am hurtling over bad guys. This car probably has more mojo under its hood than the original KITT the Hoff tooled around in while doing good for FLAG.

Horse sense from electric car designer

Posted by sunny on Jan 30th, 2007

7.gifIt’s a significant issue for the blind community who fear losing mobility if they can’t hear a vehicle passing through an intersection or especially in a parking lot where motorists don’t always follow prescribed traffic patterns.
Yoshio Takaoka has built a electric 2-seater vehicle called the Girasole that has a clip-clop sound of horse hooves hitting the pavement to alert pedestrians.
The car costs about $18,000 and can travel nearly 75 miles on a full charge. Top speed is only 41 mph, meaning that if it came to the U.S. it would likely be limited to NEV status.

Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro Preview

Posted by sunny on Jan 30th, 2007

68.jpgIt’s true that Fujifilm is dependent on third parties like the Nikon D200 case, but the technology and everything else about this camera gives you that Fujifilm feeling. The Fujifilm feeling can best be described as the way in which Fujifilm approaches imaging. On one hand, there’s the technology of the hardware, and the way in which the image is formed internally within the camera, on the other hand there’s the feeling that they have looked at the picture in more depth.
You can notice that technology and innovation from various divisions have come together to be included in the Fujifilm S5 Pro DSLR. Take the face detection or the way in which the character of the picture has been handled. Techniques and methods from the film, industry translated into a digital version. Techniques from a Fujifilm Frontier digital minilab integrated in a digital camera, etc.

New Wii colors coming this year

Posted by sunny on Jan 30th, 2007

512.jpgGameDrift (whom we’ve never heard of) claims an anonymous Nintendo rep told them over the weekend that new Wii colors are coming this year. As you can imagine, details were sparse, but the tipster claims red and black are in the bag for sure and that we can expect those two — in addition to others — by the end of the year.
New colors for Wii were never a question of “if,” only “when.” After all, Nintendo released the above promotional image the same day they unveiled what was then called the Revolution at E3 2005. But it’s unlikely such a small site has a mole deep within Kyoto or Redmond headquarters and their quick use of “confirmed” doesn’t help their credibility either. Still, one can hope for Puke Green later this year, right?
